An anthology of films by Vytautas V. Landsbergis dedicated to the filmmaker’s 50th anniversary was released by VšĮ “A Propos” in May 2012. It aims to present the works of Landsbergis and to make them publicly accessible. The release consists of five DVDs containing 24 films.
While still studying, Landsbergis took to the genre of documentary portrait and has perpetuated a number of artists in his films, including the filmmaker Jonas Mekas, and writers Nijolė Miliauskaitė, Vytautas Bložė and Grigorijus Kanovičius.
Perloja Republic (Perlojos respublika, 1993) opened the series of films by Landsbergis about the Lithuanian history and historical persons. It was followed by the Ballad about Daumantas (Baladė apie Daumantą), The President of Hope (Vilties prezidentas), Sabas, All about My Father (Visa teisybė apie mano tėvą), and A Partisan’s Wife (Partizano žmona).
The films About Apparitions (Apie apreiškimus) and Vilius Orvidas mark the filmmaker’s turn towards metaphysical topics.
Landsbergis also creates fiction films. His motion picture Hansel and Gretchen (Jonukas ir Grytutė) reveals children’s fantasies, dreams, joys and losses. When I Was a Partisan (Kai aš buvau partizanas) is an attempt to connect the present and the post-war history, fiction and real life. The film features famous Lithuanian actors – Algimantas Masiulis, Rūta Staliliūnaitė and Gediminas Storpirštis.
